Hi
Lately I’ve been watching an interesting guy - actually his name is Guy Michelmore - on Youtube
He’s not an internet marketing guru - I don’t really follow many of those guys - but a music composer and teacher.
Aside from music itself and this case music technology he imparts a lot of wisdom that applies to a lot of things
Internet marketing is one of them I think.
One of videos talks about 3 things he wishes he’d known when he started writing music.
Its a long video but they are:
1. Fundamentals before complexity.
In music as in Internet marketing and business, lots of people get would up in the complexity: Fancy websites, marketing tricks, clever videos …. when they should concentrate on doing the fundamental stuff extremely well.
2. Avoid nostalgia.
In this case he’s referring to copying old ideas. That’s never a good idea in the internet world as it moves quickly. What worked yesterday probably wont tomorrow.
3. Technology.
Lots of musicians and producers get hung up on technology as do internet marketers, photographers and video makers.
Its important to understand that technology is a tool. Your all singing all dancing tech won’t create a great marketing campaign or a musical masterpiece for you. That comes from the heart and the head, the tech just helps you get it done.
I really relate to a point he made in that last section. He talked about the thrill of getting a new piece of tech. How it is at first incredibly inspiring but then just becomes another tool in the arsenal. Very apt - I bought a drone last night!
Point of mentioning all this is that this kind of experience based wisdom can shave years, even decades, off a journey
That is why I recommend Mentors to people looking to get off the 9-5 treadmill and onto the internet gravy train.
So once again I’ll recommend that you take a look at Stuart Ross’s latest free “Dream Business” webcast here
Bests
