Hi
We (my other half and I) went for our Covid shots on Tuesday morning.
I actually didn’t even feel a scratch
And for the rest of the day I felt fine as did my partner
But as I got ready for bed I got a sudden case of violent shivers - like when I fell into an icy river when i was a kid.
I got in bed and cocooned myself in the duvet. The shivers passed but then I started getting hot. Then I got a headache and some aching joints in my arms and legs.
I took some paracetamol which helped the headache but i had a sleepless uncomfortable night.
As a result I felt like I’s been hit by a train on Wednesday and spent most of the day in bed. That’s why you didn’t hear from me.
On Thursday morning I was fine.
My partner had no side effects whatsoever and neither did most of our friends and family who have been vaccinated.
We sweated whether or not to get these jabs for some time. Not because we are convinced by any conspiracy theories about the vaccine
Or because we didn’t believe it would work
But because it does seem likely that future travel might well be restricted if you don’t have it.
There is even talk in the UK about “vaccine passports” for attending events and accessing hospitality venues such as pubs and hotels.
This to us seems like an imposition on personal freedom by the state.
But
If that's the way its going to be then you need to decide how much you value and would miss these things
Also. If we are ever going to get back to anything like the kind of freedom we had before Covid then we have to beat it.
And there doesn’t seem to be a better choice than to get vaccinated and stop it spreading.
The picture above is of my cousin Irene - a professor of medicine in Canada who is currently vaccinating as a volunteer
Her t-shirt says it all
Bests
