Hi
I don’t know if you saw by email on Wednesday about serial entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den investor Deborah Meadon……
Basically she was taking about looking ahead rather than back in our post Covid world
She talked about how her own 19 businesses are doing this and had some suggestions for those who’s industry, job or business has just disappeared over the last year.
One of them was as simple as finding something you can make at home and sell online
My partner has done this while her “day job” as a driving instructor has been on hold due to Covid restrictions.
She makes up-cycled and custom lamps and shades. In fact I’d just come back from posting several of them when I caught Deborah’s interview on TV. (we take turns driving the post office)
It made think how easy the Internet makes it do something like that and how difficult it would be without it.
We would have to buy or rent a shop and spend fortunes on local advertising with no way of judging how effective it is
In other words you start from a position of massive debt and have to pay that off before you are in profit.
With the Internet however you can start with a free Facebook page and a Google my business listing. Later when you want to scale up you can invest in a website and maybe some online ads
You are still talking very little outlay and with online ads you can pick who sees them, how much you are prepared to pay for them and monitor exactly how well they are performing.
Then you can start to see trends which help to identify your ideal customers. You can build relationships with them and produce more of what they like and less of what they don’t
Best of all you can do all this from the comfort of your own home
We really are incredibly lucky to live in a time where all this is possible and I simply cant understand people who aren’t prepared to invest a little time and money in learning how to do it.
I have a strong suspicion though that this will change very soon….

Have a nice weekend
Bests
