I’m in the habit of reading my Quora digest in bed every morning with my morning coffee.

 

Quora is a platform where people ask and answer questions of growing global network of contributors.

 

Their daily Q and A digest is one way to make sure I learn something new every day before I even get out of bed

 

Granted some of the things I learn are interesting rather than useful but other are pure gems of knowledge.

 

This morning I loved the answer to the question “Why was sliced bread so amazing that it inspired the phrase - best thing since sliced bread?”.

 

Among other things it led to creation and availability of serrated knives without which slicing bread is nearly impossible.

 

Obviously there’s the convenience of sliced bread - especially when combined with other sliced things made possible by the serrated knife

 

But also hygiene - no more tearing off chinks of bread with dirty hands or double dipping things like butter or jam.

 

All in all an amazing creation well worthy of the phrase it led to.

 

For my money the Internet is and even better candidate for a new “Best thing since………” celebration.

 

Where would we be without it now?
