Hi
I’m one of the very few members of my big family that didn’t complete a University degree. In fact - I know this is a cliche - but I’m a college dropout.
I was a bit of a teenage entrepreneur - paper rounds, doing passport photos, fixing things for cash etc.
And I did go to college to study business after finishing high school.
But I’m afraid the student social life became more attractive than the studying! I scraped a couple of qualifications but dropped out a year into the course.
But back in those days you could pick and choose jobs - they were ten a penny - and I did that for years.
Things are very different now as we all know. Even before this pandemic came along traditional industries were in big trouble thanks to the internet, automation and Artificial intelligence.
But my attitude allowed me to become very adaptable. So really moving from the traditional sales world to the Internet was not as much of a mindset switch as it is for some
And I’ve been doing most of my customer communication, marketing learning and teaching via video and Zoom/Skype for years
On the other hand it’s completely new to my family who I’ve been doing Zoom calls with since December.
My brother is a scribe. He helps degree students with autism understand and complete their assignments.
My cousin Irene is an emeritus professor of medicine in Canada.
Both are doing all of their work via Zoom and Teams etc now and both are loving it.
My brother can get more work done for more students and is therefore making more money.
Basically its now commonplace to work this way from home and probably will continue to be long after we get past this virus.
Its evolution
Put simply, if you have the skills to learn, teach, market and communicate on platforms like Youtube, Zoom and the rest
You’ve got it made
If you don’t …….. remember the dinosaurs?
