I met an old friend today who I hadn't seen for at least 20 years. We grew up together in the same little village and were good friends from the age of 5 till
our late teens.
After that as life took hold we went our separate ways and lost touch with each other even though we lived close by for a lot of that time. You know what it's like.
He reappeared in my life recently thanks to good old Facebook and we arranged a
catch up. We've both changed a lot on the outside but not so much on the inside as we discovered over a couple of hours that passed like minutes.
Like me Graeme was made redundant from a long term, well paid job and also like me decided that enough was enough! Time to go out on a limb and do something different.
He was always an exceptional artist and over the years has built up a lot of work. He showed me some in the little Gallery/workshop he is based in as part of a social enterprise programme.
He's certainly got the goods but isn't finding it easy to get people to see them and therefore to make any
sales.
When I told him how digital marketing could help he was captivated.
When I explained how easily the SFM Digital Business Lounge could get him set up with a website and learn how to start getting people all over the world in front of his work he couldn't
wait to get started.
Now this wasn't the point of us catching up obviously, but he could tell how passionate I am about the power of digital marketing - especially for creative people and wouldn't let me change the subject!
So we arranged to meet again soon and
I'll go through it with him in more detail. I'll show him how he can build a website, a Facebook page and all the other social media stuff.
I'll show him how to start marketing his work online and how to start building a list of subscribers that he can showcase all his latest work to.
I didn't know how to do any of this 6 months ago but now I can really help an old friend turn his passion and talent into his livelihood.
This will over time give him more time to concentrate on creating his amazing work and help him spend less money on renting gallery space and putting expensive leaflets through doors.
We might even be able to work together selling his work, my photographs and my partners soft furnishings and craft work. Could be the best of both worlds - an offline shop with maybe a cafe in it, and a profitable online business too.
Pretty amazing eh ?
As Jay Kubassek would ask - What Will YOU do with your digital life?"
