Dad and Mum on their 50th Wedding Anniversary
Both me and my dad have landmark
birthdays coming up this November. I'll be hitting the big 50 and he'll be hitting the even bigger 80.
We were having a coffee together the other day and talking about this. My dad was talking about how difficult things are for young people these days (to him I'm still relatively young)
He meant of course the job situation and the total mess the economy is in. In particular he talked about how many people are going to find providing for themselves in retirement very difficult.
He was an English teacher but took a sideways step into the education management side of things and built a great career that
way. He was able to take early retirement at 55 with a good pension and the mortgage paid off.
My mum was a staff nurse and again was able to retire on a decent pension.
How many people these days will be in that position when the time
comes?
How many people will find themselves working into their 70's just to maintain some kind of standard of living?
We are constantly hearing about people living in or close to poverty - often professional people with 2 incomes in the
family.
We have food banks appearing all over the place and every time I go the supermarket I see men and women close to my dad's age working on checkouts or collecting trolleys. Nightmare.
This is why so many people are looking at
other ways to ensure they can retire with income. Maybe even to a different, warmer country. The options to do that if you haven't managed to squirrel away a decent pot of cash are severely limited.
Not so in the digital economy though. If you start to pick up the skills you need to be part of the new world and put them into action there is no limit to the kind of
life you can create for retirement. Possibly even an early retirement.
Don't know about you but I reckon that's worth thinking about - worth preparing for.
It's certainly got to worth spending $29.95 on - especially when its refundable up
to 30 days. That's all it costs to apply for your SFM membership and talk to one of their business consultants.
Can you afford not to?
Bests
Dave
