Your Job Security Is Dead: Now What?

Published: Mon, 05/26/14

Without wanting to be a harbinger of doom I just wanted to pass on a few nasty facts that I've jotted down over the weekend.

Barclays Bank are cutting 12,000 jobs in the UK this year.

Unilver are shutting down an entire processing plant in Canada

An Australian aluminium plant is closing for good

Many local call centres are being closed and outsourced.

No such thing as job security any more folks - this notion of jobs for life is just so last century unfortunately.

I actually feel sorry for the guys that work in my local bank. I only ever use the place to pay money in to my account and as they have an automatic pay in machine I seldom actually need any human interaction.

That it itself is an indicator of things to come - like automatic checkouts in supermarkets - but the really sad thing is that I get approached by members of staff asking if I need a hand to place the money into the machine..... They are just desperately trying to look busy - to justify their job and try to hang on to it a bit longer.

That is a crap way to live !

It really really is the time to leverage the internet, be your own boss, work your own timetable and escape the rat race for good.

The number of people in our SFM community who have been "down-sized" from good corporate jobs (myself included) is pretty shocking. On the other hand it's inspiring to see how many of them are doing incredibly well in the new economy with their online businesses.

Technology is only going to get better and better and inevitably that's going to mean less jobs. It's really case of either sinking or swimming in the new economy - jump in or be left behind.

The easy way in is with the SFM and DEA and as you know it's just a case of making a simple, no risk application and talking things through.

I'm certainly glad I did !
