I met a friend of mine for a drink last night and as always we had a amazing conversation - you know kind you have with a good mate when that you don't see often - a putting the world to rights kind of
thing.
My friend Marc teaches English as a foreign language (TEFL) - in fact he also teaches people how to teach that. Despite the fact that this keeps him busy and allows him to travel widely, he does it to finance his real passion. You see Marc is a very talented and highly original artist.
So amongst the topics we discussed over a few beers was our shared
passion: The whole whole - non-conformist/alternative lifestyle. I don't mean as in some new age, hippy style existence (although each to their own) I mean the desire that many intelligent people have to create a life on their own terms and the realisation that it's so achievable these days.
Both of us in our different ways do that. With me it's digital marketing, working from anywhere I can hook up to the net. With Marc it's
his teaching travels which are usually based around short term assignments with a good amount of free time to spend on his art.
The big difference really is that when he is working it's extremely full on. It's sometimes stressful and he still has bosses and systems to answer to. We usually meet up between his teaching jobs and he always has, or is recovering from, a virus or has been basically sleeping and winding down for a
day or two after some very tiring weeks.
With Digital marketing it's far more flexible - A little every day. Don't get me wrong - there is hard work involved but you can do it when you choose to and if you wake up on a sunny day and it just doesn't feel like a work day, then it's not a big deal. Your online content is working for you in the background.
Often in
fact it's after one of those days that when you do log in you find you have made some money while you were out for a drive or just relaxing with family or friends.
The other factor to mention is that teaching is undeservedly not well paid considering what a valuable (the most valuable occupation in my mind) it is. Digital marketing training on the other hand - with the SFM teaching platform is very well paid and for far less
work: I mean the tiring, stressful kind of hard work.
I met Marc when I did a TEFL course which he was running. I could actually do it for a living. It would certainly feed my passion for travel but then I would be basically working a full time job again - albeit a fulfilling one - for just over subsistence wages.
Digital marketing feeds that passion far
better because you can do it anywhere. SFM are a bit like TEFL in that respect as their training gives you so much freedom.
Even if you have a passion for language teaching - you can do that online if you want to when you know how to leverage the internet - that's what TEFL actually do.
My course consisted of 20 hours in a classroom and 100 hours online. I
then did their advanced teaching online module. It was great but they didn't have a clue how to show me how to take that learning and create an online teaching business - SFM do.
There are no limits or restricts on what you can do with this. As another friend - this one from SFM said on video yesterday - "It costs $30 to apply for this - I spend that on coffee every week. If you don't like what you see - get your money back -
no biggie !"
I hope to work with you soon....
