Not long till the big day now ….

 

Although it’ll be a pretty different day for most of us this year

 

We are doing a family Zoom Party on Sunday for example and Aunt Irene (The great organiser)

 

Has assigned everyone involved with tasks ……

 

Myself and two of my cousins from the same generation of our big extended family

 

Have been asked (told! lol) to talk for a couple of minutes each on Christmas past, present and future

 

I chose future

 

And instantly began to panic about what the hell I’m going to say

 

An idea came to me last night which I think I’ll go with

 

To assign a guitar chords to past, present and future  - and spend the majority of my time on the future but as agreed

 

If you’re interested I’m going with Am7 for past - it’s not quite minor, not quite major so conjures up bittersweet memories of times gone by and carries a touch of nostalgia

 

C diminished will represent the present - especially this present as we can safely say that life has been diminished in many ways this year

 

But its also a passing chord, designed to lead to something else

 

In this case the C major chord - a big bright, positive chord - which I’ve chosen to represent the future

 

A future which will be different than we expected but which, unlike the past, we can decide what we want it to look like

 

And that is down in many ways to the kind of technology that has made it possible for us to have virtual family events ….

 

For us to have a life - the one we want
