Hi
I’ve never been more acutely aware of the value of time that I am now
Partly because of what’s happening in the world right now and partly because of what’s happening to my dad
He been struggling with dementia and a couple of other major health problems for a few years now
Recently he has started to decline faster and had to be taken into a respite home for a couple of weeks last month
We couldn’t visit him as he was placed in isolation as soon as he went in. I still cant see him because of covid restrictions here
Yesterday he was taken into hospital for a bladder infection.
It’s an utterly horrible situation and one lots of people are going through right now.
But through all that I have to admire how dad placed value on his time and made the most of it while he had his health
It has inspired me to try and do the same.
My dad started as an english teacher but rose to a very senior position in education management before he took early retirement in his fifties.
Until he started to get ill he and mum travelled the world regularly. They had worked hard to pay off the mortgage and both had the kind of pensions you just don’t get anymore
So although Its truly awful to see him literally disappearing in front of my eyes
It’s comforting to know that he probably has achieved everything he wanted out of life
But he and mum did that with a conscious plan they made together and committed to unfalteringly
Its a different world today and its much harder (even without covid) to do what my folks did with traditional careers
The best way to do it as far as I can see is to get skills that are appropriate for the times we live in
The kind of skills that can be transferred as required like a valuable currency
Without doubt those skills in the modern age are based around the internet and the digital economy
Look at some of the most successful and wealthy people in the world today:
Jeff Bezos - Amazon (about to become a trillionaire)
Bill Gates - Microsoft
Mark Zuckerberg - Facebook
Steve Jobs - Apple
There are many more and they have all changed the world with computers and the Internet.
My own Mentors at SFM are part of this revolution too and are helping people to gain the skills that can create the kind of lifestyle my folks had after retirement
But without the 50 hour weeks and without having to wait till retirement is possible
Its done by building a very strong foundation step by step - which is exactly how SFM have build their platform
Is it perhaps time you started building Plan B? - Step one is here
Bests
Dave
