Looks like lots of people are using this lockdown time to do a spot of DIY
I’m one of them - which is why you didn't get an email from me yesterday
As I finished the torturous process of laying ceramic tiles in the kitchen just after my first (and last) experience of wall papering, I reflected on how its just not worth trying to be a jack of all trades.
I’ve tiled a floor before and swore that I’d never do it again but since I don’t know when it’ll be possible to hire a professional to come and do it I bit the bullet and got on with it.
I dragged the tile cutter out of the attic and spent the day mixing adhesive, cutting and laying tiles on our awkwardly shaped kitchen floor.
Basically a big L shape but with a few alcoves (and 100+ year old houses don't have many true 90 angles or parallel walls)
I broke a few tiles and some didn’t stick properly as I’d mixed the adhesive too wet or too dry - who knows..
The gaps between them are uneven and the more complicated cuts are inaccurate.
I won’t say a monkey could have done better - it’s not terrible - but a professional tradesman would laugh at me.
When I grout between the dark grey tiles with black grout a multitude of sins will be disguised
But if I’d been able to use my preferred option - hiring a pro to do it
The job would have been done faster and better.
It would have cost more but then I wouldn’t have had to waste a day or two of my time doing something I hated
Building an online business is much the same. There are lots of components that need to be created
And while you could probably fumble your way through doing it yourself you might end up with a bit of mess
Which is why I always recommend SFM and DEA to anyone who is looking at getting an online business started.
