Last night my mentor Jay Kubassek, co-founder of SFM and DEA hosted a very timely webinar called "Crisis Vs Opportunity".
I just wanted to share some of his key points as the C word continues to disrupt our world as we've never seen before.
Empty shelves, self isolation, fear, stress, loss of income, collapsing businesses..... you know the score.
Jay made some key points and stressed that these are not his predictions but are from professionals he trusts.
In his follow up email this morning he talks about how flabergasted he is to find CNN and other mainstream outlets echoing those predictions. I quote:
- A major recession is now not only inevitable, but certain
- Millions of job losses expected for March, April and June
- JP Morgan Chase now forecasting the economy to shrink the most that we’ve seen since WWII
- We can expect the worst economic pullback since 1929
- This is crisis is NOT going anywhere soon. US and Canadian Gov expecting this to to last 18+ months
- US/Canadian schools likely closed for the rest of the school year
- DOW closes under 20,000 for the first time since Obama was President, erasing all gains since 2016
So how can all this mayhem create opportunity?
Well here are some of the key points he (and I) would like to share:
1. Invest in yourself:
Whatever that looks like for you, from educating yourself to self care, make sure you are allocating time for you.
2. Diversify your skills, up-skill and reskill:
Take this as an opportunity to learn new skills that allow you to insulate yourself from an employer shutting their doors or situations like this, which frankly is getting a lot worse. This makes you more valuable to other people and to yourself.
3. Be empathetic:
Ask yourself “Where can I be more empathetic and help others?” By being empathetic to others it takes the focus from being inward and focusing on ourselves
4. Seek to serve others:
By staying inward and focusing on yourself you’re digging yourself into an emotional hole. The best antidote to anxiety is to help others that are less fortunate. And this is how we grow and get through this together.

On these points: There is no better place to get the kind of skills Jay is talking about here than SFM and DEA
My own prediction - backed up by the messages I'm seeing from the people I subscribe to and the increase in enquiries I'm seeing myself, is that people will be clamouring to find smarter ways to adapt to life as we now know it.
They'll want information on:
How to work from home
How to become more self reliant
How to insulate themselves from not just a virus, but the years of chaos its already leading us in to
None of us could foresee Corona and its effects but these guys did foresee a massive digital skills gap
And created a platform to combat it.
There really has never been a better time to join the fastest growing community for change than now
And you can apply right here.
Take care
