I Skyped with a friend the other day who I met 5 years ago at an SFM live event in London.
During the call we talked about world topic number 1 - the Coronavirus (who isn’t talking about that right now?)
As you must know the current advice if you think you may have it or want to avoid it
Is to self isolate.
In the UK the government has even changed the statutory sick pay cover to start on day one for anyone tested positive for the virus
Schools are closing, airlines are going bust and entire countries (Italy) are in quarantine.
In the news this morning Tom Hanks and his wife have just tested positively for the virus
But back to my Skype call
My friend made the comment that both of us have essentially been self isolating for over 5 years
Not to avoid a virus - it wasn’t around for most of that time - but because we’ve been working from home all that time.
We wondered if this current pandemic, on top of all the huge changes and disruptions we’ve seen in recent years: Brexit, huge reversals in political trends and the widely predicted next recession
Might be causing even more people to consider working from home - or to revisit the idea
Could it be the final straw for many people? The last little push towards leaving the rat race behind?
Who knows - but I think it’s likely and so do the founders of SFM
Over the last 15 years, Co-founder Jay Kubassek has seen massive up turns in his business (before and after founding SFM and DEA with Stuart Ross) every time there’s been a major world event like those I’ve mentioned.
In the 2005 and 2008 recessions and banking crises his business doubled almost overnight
His business then and now is all about teaching people how to create work from home (from anywhere) online income using tried and tested business models like affiliate marketing and e-commerce.
Food for thought?
Stay safe
Cheers!
Dave
