I can’t believe its October already can you?
Already the pre Christmas sales push has begun
People are preparing to get themselves into debt to buy presents that no one really needs
Toys that kids will be bored with by January
And masses of food and drink that they’d really be better off avoiding
But its Ok
Because soon it will the 1st of January 2020 and we can all make resolutions to do things differently
Again.
Except of course that it’ll be back to work after a lovely holiday
Then there’s the January sales to think about
And of course a well earned post January blues Holiday to arrange……
Then it’s Easter!
Sorry to for the humbuggy cynicism - (I’m only half serious)
But all these - Big dates in the calendar - that we are all supposed to arrange our lives around remind me of what Roman Emperors used to say when it came to controlling their hard bitten citizens..
“Give them bread and circuses”
Food in the belly and lavish entertainment tended to make the citizens forget that they were living a hand to mouth existence completely out of their own control
Fast food and reality TV? Paycheck to paycheck?
When you have time to think about things you realise that not much has changed
Except that it has...
When you discover modern business models like affiliate marketing and e-commerce which can turn a monthly paycheck into a weekly or daily paycheck
And that they don’t up take most of your precious time
You really begin to appreciate freedom
