Today I’m continuing on the theme of Mentorship
As I mentioned in the last mail Mentorship has been the key to success for me in all the areas of my life I value most
I talk about it in relation to online business and my mentors there - SFM
But I’ve also had great musical mentors
At the moment I’m mixing music and am finding some incredible mentoring on the subject on Youtube
(Mentoring doesn’t always have to a face to face thing)
Like most people who get into home recording I’m self taught.
I’ve picked up bits and pieces from books, manuals, friends and colleagues from the AV industry and have worked out a lot on my own.
But I watched a video yesterday of a presentation from MIXCON - an annual convention dedicated to the art and science of mixing music.
I won’t go into detail - a lot of it is technical and probably not of interest to you if you aren’t a home recording type
But I want to say this
In one hour I learned more from a top mixing engineer’s presentation than I have in the last 10 years!
Honestly the guy gave away more tips and golden nuggets than I could count.
I’ve saved the video and will be referring to it constantly from now on
It all comes down to experience - thats true of mentorship on any subject
These guys have lived, breathed and slept their chosen discipline for years
Information, knowledge and those years of hard won experience simply flows out of them
