When I started looking for a business I liked the idea of a franchise
I could see the sense of buying a ready built business rather than building one from scratch
“Buy or Build” as the saying goes.
But the more I looked at various Franchise opportunities the less appealing they looked
There was the cost for one thing - anything from $10k to over $1million (MacDonalds)
The average franchise investment is $50K
Way over the budget I had at the time.
But there were other things that put me off.
There’s a lot of financial stuff to wade through and usually some pretty binding contacts involved. They are hard to get into and out of in other words.
Also with a franchise you are tied to a set product range and usually a strict territory - a successful franchise will have lots of franchisees after all and they’ll be your competition too
When I heard Stuart Ross talking about his first business disaster (a franchise) in one of the SFM free videos my mind was made up.
I decided that an Online Affiliate Business was a much better bet
I’ve recored a video explaining why in more detail if you’re interested -
