I’m working on a Sunday for the first time in a long time
And it’s far cry from what working on a Sunday used to mean
I’m just doing a bit of admin - updating my website plugins, having a look over a new project I’m working on - nothing too taxing and quite satisfying. (I can always take Monday off If I choose to)
Back when I was a technician and project manager in The AV industry things were very different
Working on a Sunday or a Saturday sometimes into the wee small hours was a financial necessity
as we were paid double time
But the work was definitely taxing. Sure you had the satisfaction of a job well done but you were sacrificing a lot for it
Time specifically
And that double time was usually on top of what had already been a long week
Since moving into the Internet world double time has taken on an entirely new meaning
Instead of working double, I now have at least double the free time I used to have - sometimes much more than that
So putting a few hours in on the weekend is no biggie at all.
Maybe this is something you can relate to?
And maybe its not so bad - I certainly used to like the money and I worked with a team of great people so there were a lot of laughs along the way
But as I got older the time I was sacrificing became much more valuable and It just wasn’t worth it
What was the alternative though?
I asked myself that question a lot during many long Sunday’s when I’d be running corporate events for people who would be going home many hours before us
Eventually the Internet got to the stage where, with some retraining and application, it presented a whole new ball game - a viable alternative to exchanging time for money
Thank you Tim Berners Lee: Inventor of the Internet -

And thanks to SFM whose platform makes the transition possible for anyone who wants it.
It's just a click away
Cheers!
