When it comes to skills I always thought the best ones to have would be the kind of skills that were flexible
My first passion was for music and as a guitarist I wanted to learn all kinds of music so that I could use those basic skills to create my own sound
Rather than just learning one particular style
That way I could join all kinds of bands and make interesting, original music.
As a back up - music being a very tricky field to get paid for - I thought sales skills would be similarly flexible
So I studied business at college (until I got bored and dropped out)
But I did learn enough to finance myself selling everything from art to frozen fish
Eventually I became the business development manager for a big Audio Visual corporation
When the recession that started in 2008/2009 eventually led to me losing my job I went looking for a new set of skills
Skills that would be relevant in the digital world that had already improved everything I was passionate about beyond recognition.
Those skills have completely revolutionised my life
I wrote a blog post about what I see are the most needed skills for the future right now
You can check it out here
Hope you like it - let me know
Cheers!
