Have you seen those funny “Don’t Panic” Memes?
Usually they are followed by “It’s Friday” or something and have a funny
picture
Well I often think they have my partner in mind when they write those
Tuesday was a perfect example….
As I’ve mentioned she has her own thriving driving instruction business and usually everything runs
smoothly
But on Tuesday two of her pupils had tests.
After the first test, the next pupil had booked a pre-test lesson - but things went crazy….
I got an extremely panicky phone call from my partner which went
something like this….
“THE CAR’S BROKENDOWN!!!!THERE’SAWARNINGLIGHTON!!!!THEWATERHASALLCOMEOUTANDITSOVERHEATING!!!!!!CANYOULOOKUPTHEMANUALANDTELLMEWAHTTHISWARNINGLIGHTMEANS???IDONTKNOWWHATTODO!!!CANYOUCOMEPOUTANDHELP????
Phew!
Now this has happened before and I knew what the problem most likely was - she had topped up the water level and not screwed the radiator cap on properly
So I cut her off mid rant and asked “Where are you?”
She told me and I headed out there in my car
The problem was as I’d suspected and was easily fixed.
She was 10 minutes late for her
pupil who then passed her test with flying colours
Next day the beautiful bunch of lowers pictured above arrived with a lovely thank you note from said pupil …….
The moral of the story?
Don’t panic - it’s never worthwhile
and things are seldom as bad as they seem
Panic is infectious. I know this from years spent in the live events industry where equipment often breaks down and the best laid plans often have to be revised
Usually 5 minutes before show time!
But 9.99999 times out of ten the skill, experience and calmness of the technicians, project managers and crew saves the day
By NOT panicking like the organisers, speakers and performers often do
It’s understandable - in both examples
there is a lot at stake
And it’s the same with life in general.
If you can take yourself out of the pressure cooker that is modern life and just smell the roses for a minute
Life starts to become enjoyable
again
In my early days as an internet entrepreneur and SFM member I was sometimes tempted to panic when things were going wrong
But as with my old career I knew I had an amazing support network around me who I could reach out to and who would know what to do
It’s called TEAM WORK
And when you join SFM you become part of a team like no other
And instead of blind panic you have peace of mind.
Cheers!
