Over the years we’ve seen so many format changes
But have you noticed how quickly it happens
now?
Take the way we consume music as an example:
We used to buy vinyl or tapes (some still buy vinyls but thats more of a specialist thing now) most of went with the change to CD, then mini disc, then Mp3
Now
we can just subscribe to one of many platforms that let us listen to anything we want without necessarily having to store anything at all
Same with Books - I still have a three shelves of actual books - because I just like the look of them and sometimes like to re-read a much loved book in physical form.
Mostly I
download e-books from the library or buy Kindle books which I read on my ipad or phone
When we moved house 3 years ago I sold, gave away or simply dumped hundreds of books, CD’s tapes, VHS videos and DVD’s
I’ve just moved them all into electronic formats stored on several small slabs of technology
In recent years its the entire business model that is changing - not just the format its delivered by
And the same has/is happening to the way we earn income and live our lives
Some traditionalists mourn the loss of the old ways. They
miss the books, the Vinyl, CD’s, tapes, rolls of film, photo albums etc - even though no-one makes the equipment to play or watch them with any more!
Not me!
I love the way things are changing - the world is becoming very like a lot of the science fiction stuff I used to read and daydream about when I was a
kid
And having seen all these changes happen in a relatively short space of time, I want to keep on top of it and leverage every scrap of lifestyle advantage out of them
Frankly, I think its a huge mistake not to.
And when you find mentors, organisations and communities dedicated to help you re-format and move with the times - like SFM and DEA
You really have found the pot of gold at the end
of the rainbow
Cheers!
