Have you heard of the 80/20 rule AKA Pareto’s Principle?
It was coined by an Italian chap by the name of Pareto back
in 1859
Basically he discovered that around 80% of Italy’s wealth at that time was in the hands of 20% of its population.
Lots of people have since run with the principle and found that it’s true in many walks of life
80% of your results in a job or business come from 20% of your actions
80% of a company’s profits come from 20% of its employees
AND THE BIG ONE
....
80% of your happiness, fulfilment and life success (however you define it) comes from 20% of your time.
So what happens to the other 80% of our time?
Sadly most of us waste it
On things we don’t enjoy, feel passionate about or even like. To be fair that’s because we need to earn a living.
And statistics prove that most 9-5ers are actually only productive for 20% of their average day. The
rest of the time is spent in meetings, drinking coffee, chatting or sneaking in some social media time.
But the digital revolution (the Internet) has presented an alternative.
It has allowed us to concentrate our efforts on the 20%
Only on the
Internet can we turn small amounts of highly focussed work into a far better return than any 9-5 job could ever offer - financially and in terms of lifestyle quality.
It’s what Timothy Ferriss refers to in his book The 4 Hour Work Week
We can leverage the systems, platforms and strategies the Internet runs on to
magnify the actual work we do
And get back 80% of our time
When we learn how.
