Someone posted this question on Facebook the other day -

         “Whats the best advice you’ve ever been given?”

There were lots of answers 

Some were funny like - “Life is a box of chocolates - you never know what you’ve been given” Forrest Gump 

Others were well know cliches and quotes from personal development guru’s  

Some were genuine and heartfelt. 

               Mine was - “Do It Now” (D.I.N)

I got it from a guy called Dec Cluskey, lead singer and guitarist with 60’s band The Bachelors.

His band still tours but Dec is also a respected music biz mentor and consultant. 

You see I once bought a mentoring course from him called “Make Hits” about how to be successful in the music industry.

Whilst I got a lot of value from this in terms of practical tips about performance, equipment, recording and the business side of the industry

The D.I.N thing was the most valuable and has become a motto I’ve adopted. 

So whenever I’m swithering about spending money on an ad campaign, investing in new equipment or tools for my online business, I remember that phrase.

It also helped me to press go when it came to joining SFM and then upgrading to DEA Gold in the first place.

Because the timing is never exactly "right" for anything in life - you can waste your life waiting for the perfect time. 

It’ll never come 

Unless you trust your instincts, embrace the risk, get out of your comfort zone 

And just DO IT NOW 

I’m appreciating the wisdom of that right now as I sit in my living room looking out across the sea to the Isles of Bute, Arran and beyond.

There are a lot of material things in the room and in the rest of the house that resulted from DIN. They were all a risk when I bought them but they’ve all paid off. 

I’m about to go for a drive to shoot video for an ad in a beautiful forrest nearby. That is the biggest and best example of DIN I could give you.

Because selling our amazing place in the city to come out here was a SERIOUS risk! We rented for a few months just to see if we could make it work.

But guess what? It did! 

Now we sometimes still pinch ourselves to make sure we are not dreaming when we’re out walking or driving around the place we now call home. 

An online business has made this possible and if I hadn’t fully embraced the idea of DIN - or as Eckhart Tolle would say ‘The Power of Now”, we wouldn’t be here.
