While researching for a new blog post and video yesterday I came across a term I’d never heard before...
“Locus of Control”
Here’s a definition:
“A
person with an internal locus of control believes that he or she can influence events and their outcomes, while someone with an external locus of control blames outside forces for everything”.
I discovered this when I was looking for ideas around how to stop making excuses
Something that in the past has held me back but which I hardly ever do now
In fact if I find myself about to make an excuse I consciously step in
So according to the locus of control idea- a concept developed in the 50’s - I’ve moved mine from external to
internal
Yay!
In practice its pretty simple and very powerful since making excuses holds us back from so much in life.
One way to get started is to stop using the word BUT
As that little word often comes right before a big fat excuse!
“I’d love to start an online lifestyle business BUT…..”
As Henry Ford famously
said
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”
He might not have known it but he was describing the locus of control.
Hope you find this as useful an insight as I
have.
Cheers!
