I watched a news item last night with a lot of interest
It was all about how Politics and the increasing difficulty
in finding a job is causing the UK’s young people a huge amount of anxiety.
You can read it here
The item, based on a survey of 2,215 people between 17-25 for the Princes Trust last November had some startling
findings.
Amongst them were:
- 50% felt it was harder to get a job than a year ago
- 42% felt traditional goals like home ownership or a steady job were unrealistic
- 34% felt they would have a worse standard of living than their
parents
- 28% felt out of control of their lives.
“Too many of the young people polled are demoralised and pessimistic, says the charity, with 18% believing they would be unable to change their circumstances and 16% saying their lives would amount to nothing, no matter how hard they tried.”
Dame Martina - Chief exec of the charity - stated:
"The single most important thing we can do to empower these young people is to help them into a job, an education course or on to a training programme. Now, more than ever, we must work together to provide the support and opportunities they need to unlock a brighter
future."
This is exactly why SFM and DEA were created.
We live in a very rapidly changing world. One where our old education systems are simply not offering people what they need to thrive in the new economy (The Internet)
Now I don’t have kids - if I did I’d want them to be equipped with TODAY skills.
I have however been made redundant twice in my mid to late forties and I know how tough it is to get back into the old system of employment and education.
So much so that I would suggest turning your back on it and aligning with modern, cutting edge educators is a far better plan.
For me those are the SFM and DEA - people who completely understand the digital economy and absolutely know what skills are needed to thrive (not just survive) in
it.
No matter how young or old you are.
