I often say that perseverance is one of the key qualities for success in any field.
In fact I shot a video on this a
while back - Click here to watch
Here’s a recent example…
On Monday we headed off to visit our oldest friends who live in Falkirk - an hour and a half away by boat and road.
The journey turned out to be a bit of nightmare and we considered giving up and turning back a number of times.
To start with, the queue for the ferry was longer that we have ever seen and it soon became obvious that we would not be getting on the next 2 or 3 sailings.
So about an hour waiting.
We have the option of driving round the long way which probably takes about hour so decided that we’d rather spend an hour looking at beautiful scenery than the back of someone else’s car.
Off we
drove.
All was well until somewhere near Loch Lomond we ran into a traffic jam which took nearly 3 hours to clear.
That’s when we considered turning back…. many times!
I don’t know
about you but for me the worst thing about traffic jams is not the boredom, the tedium or the frustration but the fact that you cant see what’s actually causing it!
We never did see any reason for it the other day.
Point is that we didn’t give up. The destination was too important for us and the thought
of wasting all that time and petrol was just not on.
Its much better to keep pushing forward.
Even if you can’t always enjoy the journey.
That goes as much for starting a business,
taking a new direction or any other major change as it does for fighting through a jam.
