I’m so used to working for myself, from home on the internet that I’m still surprised by the questions I get asked.
If I’m in the local shops or the bank - where in this part of the world - a friendly chat is the norm - I’m often asked...
“So having a day off today?”
Happened today in fact in the bank and the supermarket.
“Er, no I reply, just getting some shopping in for friends coming over this
weekend”.
Then as I’m wondering why they asked me that, it dawns on me that it’s Friday or A.N. Other weekday.
Clearly a man under retirement age really should be “at work” during the day on a weekday.
Perfectly natural thing for them to assume I guess but for me a little weird since I live in a completely different world from that now.
Normally I’ve actually done some work before I head out and do some more when I get back - but not the kind of work I could easily explain - I’ve tried - blank stares!
I did do the 9-5, Mon- Fri for too many years and at the end of the day it gave me no real security and took up far too much of my valuable time.
And honestly I feel a bit sorry for people still stuck in that trap when they say things like “Lucky you - I’ve got another 5 hours stuck in here”.
I can only assume that most days are the same: Watching the clock and longing for payday.
There are alternatives……
Feel free to get in touch if you want to explore them
Cheers!
