Have you heard that famous saying - “Outside your comfort zone is where the magic happens”?
I’ve certainly found that to be true but our cats provided an amazing example of that yesterday…
We’re going away for a couple days next month so we decided to fit cat flaps to our internal and external doors. One is just a standard cat flap the other is operated by the microchips they each have implanted.
Now obviously this will give them a huge amount of independence as they can come and go as they please whether we are here or not.
The microchip flap will also keep them safe from other cats etc (and will stop every cat in the area holding parties when we are out!)
But could we get the cats to go through the flaps? Nope!
After some bribing with treats we could get them to go through - if we held the flap open - but no way were they going to actually push that flap themselves.
You see the cats ave learned that if they cry at the door, one of us will let them in/out - so that has become their comfort zone - why bother to learn anything else?
Now obviously you can't reason with a cat. You can’t explain the advantages of using those flaps. You need to keep demonstrating, encouraging and motivating (with treats) Repetition is key.
And it is totally the same for us. We get into comfort zones through repetition and we will do almost anything to stay there.
Getting out them - to where the magic happens - can be like moving a mountain.
But in reality - once you decide to do it (the difficult bit) It’s more like pushing a cat flap.
So in one of my more tenuous comparisons LOL - I’m going to compare SFM to a cat flap ……
They’ll provide you with everything
