The theme of a lot of the emails I’ve received this week has been “Fast”
As in - “Get loads of traffic FAST”, “Get
FAST results on Facebook ads”……. etc
(I really do need to get around to unsubscribing from a few lists!)
But on the ‘FAST” thing: Whilst everybody loves a shortcut and would love to start an online business on Monday and be rich by Tuesday, it doesn’t really work that way.
Often a technique like those I mentioned above might give your business a short term boost but in the long run might do more harm than good.
It’s better to be in it for the long game and to have more realistic expectations.
A good example would be my own experience with Youtube.
I used a number of strategies to get my old channel and it’s videos seen. Nothing “black hat” or naughty - just a few tricks of the trade that worked well for a while but suddenly didn’t.
The result being that Youtube removed my channel -
lots of subscribers, lots of views and comments and a very good source of new business - gone - overnight.
Since then I’ve been building a new channel carefully and slowly, making sure every box is ticked and that I’m following Youtube’s guidelines to the letter.
The moral of the story is - be wary of
“FAST” in this game. Think twice before you buy traffic gigs on Fivver or invest in traffic clubs or backlinks or social media fans, comments and likes.
Just be real online and people will find you. By all means take the odd strategic shortcut - like joining SFM - but be cautious.
Cheers!
