I genuinely believe that lots more adults would love the opportunity to learn if they only had the time.
Wouldn’t you?
I remember weighing up my options years ago when I realised that I was going to be stuck in a job I wasn’t loving. I could also see that my job wasn’t very secure, what with the recession and all.
Getting a different set of skills - more education - seemed unavoidable but where would I find the time?
I could study in my spare time but I didn’t have much of that and didn’t fancy sacrificing it …
I could chuck the job and study full time but then I’d have no income…
What a quandary!
In the end the decision was taken out of my hands when I was made redundant.
So
I decided to learn Teaching English as a Foreign Language.(TEFL) I completed the course then a further course on TEFL online.
I didn’t really have a strong desire to be an English Teacher like my dad was but I saw the value in having a back up set of skills.
I realised when I did the course about teaching online that
to do that I would still need to be able to market myself online - another set of skills/education.
That’s when I was introduced to SFM and DEA and amongst other things the value of lifelong learning.
Now I’m a bit of a learning addict!
Because...
Every new skill I pick up (because I
have the time now) is marketable in today’s world: Video filming and editing, advertising on Google, Facebook, Youtube, blogging have all made me money.
Even when I learn a new music recording software I can use it for things like background music in videos.
But these are fast becoming ESSENTIAL
skills - if you don’t have them 5,10,15 years from now you’ll find yourself living in a very restricted world.
My advice is to embrace learning again and find the time to do it - but learn the right things - the things that will help you not just to survive but to thrive in the digital world.
You won’t get them at school, college, Uni or night classes because by the time they put a course together it’s out of date.
You get it from successful, in the trenches, digital entrepreneurs - LIKE THESE GUYS
Cheers!
