I’ve always been a freedom seeker. I guess it started when I was very young, watching bands on Top of the Pops.
Later I
was drawn to motorbikes - the ultimate freedom machine you might say. Over the years I’ve had 8 of them. So I put off joining “the real world” for as long as I could.
I left school then went to college really just to put off the real world for another couple of years.
I really had no ambitions
other than to be a guitarist in a band.
To finance that I went through a succession of stalled careers: Retail management, sales, self employment, fish farming, finally settling in the audio visual industry as a telesales person, then a technicialn, then a project manager, then a business development manager.
The
whole time I was really just treading water in order to finance the music stuff. I did have some success with music but not enough to fully escape the 9-5
I got a company car and had to wear a suit so the bikes went from being my only means of transport to an occasional novelty. The last one gathered dust for 2 years in my folks garage till I sold it.
I did however meet my soul mate in the process and we’ve now been together nearly 20 years.
My point in telling you this is that it’s too easy to get sucked into living a conventional life and away from your dreams.
It can be a long process but one which means many of us get to the age of 40,50 or beyond and think - “Shit - what happened to the dream?”
That’s definitely where I was at 47. Luckily as it happens (although it sure didn’t seem like it at the time!) I was laid off from my 12 year job at that point.
Of course my first thoughts were that I had to replace what I’d lost - get another job, get the steady money coming back - get back into “The real world”….
Keepin up with the Jones's.....
Again luckily, I was introduced to SFM and DEA around then and invested some of my redundancy pay in their training and online business partnership.
I can 100% say that I have never looked back.
I’ve just had my second biggest ever month financially and I’ve
recently got back into music. My partner and I have also been able to move to the highlands of Scotland and buy a house by the sea - always a component of both of our - once imaginary - ideal lifestyle.
Has it all been plain sailing? Of course not.
Have there been times of doubt? Of
course.
Freedom doesn’t come easy but man is it worth it!
And these days - with the right skills, mindset and mentorship you just need to want it to have it.
There’s nothing worse than regrets.
Freedom is everything
