Over the weekend our friend’s new boy friend was asking us how the hell we managed to leave our city apartment and buy a place like we have here. 

After explaining how my business can be run from anywhere and how my partner’s has thrived thanks to digital marketing we made a few comparisons and did a few sums. 

For a start, because we live in a pretty rural, seaside place that has little in the way of ordinary employment opportunities, property is relatively cheap. 

Because neither of us need to commute we save a small fortune (actually for me to commute daily to the nearest big town would cost more per month than our mortgage) 

The local taxes are less too and we no longer need to pay a Factor (property management service) a small fortune for doing very little. 

Since we no longer live lives that we feel the need to take holidays from we don’t spend fortunes on that any more. When we do want to travel we can pick and choose the times we go. 

That means we are not tied by work obligations to go abroad at the most expensive times of year - the times when everyone else goes! 

But these are just financial benefits, the lifestyle benefits are far more valuable to us.

So when our friend’s new friend said to us whilst sipping wine in the garden watching the sailboats out on the firth “Man I could just sit here watching the world the world go by all day” we said “What’s stopping you?”

Can’t afford it? - If you want it badly enough you’ll find the money to start and you can be earning as you learn.
