This is the first email I’ve sent from my brand new home office. I can feel already that its going to be a huge asset for my business and am glad I put a few hours
in yesterday getting it finished.
I still have the green screen to hang on one wall and a big mural on the other but aside from those details its a cool, dedicated work space I can use when I am working from home.
I wrote a blog post recently about whether or not it’s important to have a dedicated office
for a home based business.
I think it’s important for several reasons.
1. Self discipline/routine. An awful lot of what brings you success in an online business - any business I suppose, is your mindset. You sometimes have to remind yourself that you ARE running a business here. Sometimes that’s not easy with
an online business - which can feel like one long holiday at times.
2. Separation - Similar to the above really. A home office gives you a place where , when you’re in it, you are working. It also means you can put up a whiteboard or a green screen for videos if, like me, thats part of your work.
3. It’s
tax deduct-able - which again helps to reinforce the fact that you are runnig a business not a hobby.
So there we are. Although a home office is by no means necessary for a internet business - I’ve been running mine from the living the living room table for 8 months - if you have the space, its a very good idea.
I fully intent to still work from the living room table, the garden decking or the kitchen in my house occasionally but from now on, unless I’m away from home, I’ll mainly be in the office......
Where you can contact me to discuss starting your own amazing home business!
Cheers!
