When I got back from the morning walk I logged into Facebook as I sipped my coffee. One of the posts that caught my attention was the image above taken from a UK newspaper.
As you can see its all about predictions from the CBI and government that retirement age, in the UK at least, is likely to be climbing to 75
Reading the small print, other authorities are talking more like 81
That’s just to qualify for the measly state pension you’ve worked for all your life by following the good old 40/40/40 rule (work 40 hours per week for 40 years to retire on 40% of your average salary over that time)
Seriously guys - doesn’t that shock you?
If you add that prediction to the fact that technology and the internet is set to replace around 40% of those nice, safe “secure” jobs over the next decade or two anyway, you could be looking at
“A whole mess of trouble” - as my Texan friend JJ jackson of DEA might
say
That is if you remain tied to the old economy and the old system instead of arming yourself with a skill set that could turn all that gloom and doom into a huge positive.
The way I see it is that you can either knuckle down and start creating your own retirement fund
the old way and accept that you might be stuck with that till you’re 80 (If you are in the lucky 60% whose jobs or businesses aren’t disrupted of course)
Sadly many people will be thinking that those are good odds …
Or
You can get ahead of the game by doing something different.
The ironic thing is that those of us who switched to the digital economy used be the ones swimming against the flow - very soon we will be the ones who are going with the flow!
Actually working in the digital economy: Running online businesses from home IS the new security!
Most people will have to do SOMETHING to adapt to the new world (actually that’s NOW)
The government won’t and can’t do it for you, Schools, Colleges and Universities can’t keep up, employers can’t guarantee that their business or your job will be around till you’re able to retire….
SFM and DEA don’t offer guaranteed success either (that would be immoral) What they can provide is a solid, reliable vehicle that’s purpose built to function in the world that is here now
and the one that’s coming fast.
If you take the decision to invest in yourself, your future, and the future of your family right now you will be in the driving seat of that vehicle tomorrow.
Or if you prefer, you’ll be on the surfboard on top of the wave that’s coming - not under it -
drowning.
