So glad neither my partner Mo or me had to go anywhere today.
A lot of the UK has been
hit by what the Met office here are calling Storm Frank.
We took a long drive yesterday to the town of Oban as the weather was pretty good but on our way home - a long twisty highland road with no lighting - “Frank” started to kick off.
Ordinarily I love driving my little Z3 on these roads but seriously strong wind
and driving rain takes the fun out of it! We were glad to get home.
But while we wandered around Oban I was struck - as I was when we spent a few days in Dublin a year ago, just how many people really are living the laptop lifestyle these days.
Ok so Dublin is pretty happening city but Oban is a fishing town in
the Scottish Highlands. I used to spend a lot of time their when I lived on the Island of Mull - a 45 minute boat journey away.
In those days most of the young people had to move to bigger cities for work but these days - judging by the number of them beavering away on laptops in every Cafe and pub window - they have the option to stay.
That can only be good for the economies of small, rural towns - judging by how much Oban has changed in the 15 years since I sent any time there.
So like nature, technology is unstoppable. So why try? Much better to adapt yourself to thrive than to be blown away…..
I’m constantly glad I did
Cheers!
