That’s what my new boss shouted at me on my first day working at a fish farm years ago.

The trouble was that I was looking at a complicated arrangement of rafts, metal cages and other paraphernalia all fastened together with a myriad of yellow ropes! 

I grabbed one at random - ” NO NO NO NO Not that one! “ he shouted

This went on for a few attempts before I got the right one. 

How much easier would that have been if my boss had been a better communicator or if I’d had a chance to “learn the ropes” (sorry) first. 

That way I would have had some idea of what the whole contraption was doing and therefore what the various ropes were actually doing. Then maybe we could have got the job done faster and with less  stress all round. 

The internet is like that - I guess that’s why its called the world wide web. 

But that’s much more complicated that my example at the fish farm but the idea is the same - things are easier when you have a system that’s easy to learn when you have patient, knowlegeable teachers.
