It’s always nice to get a little recognition for your efforts. Not something you get very often in the corporate world in my experience.

This little Facebook note from Stuart Ross to me this morning is just one example of how differently SFM and DEA do things. 

It’s just - cool 

I could quite easily just be another affiliate to someone like Stuart Ross - just another number. I could deal with that but I much prefer that he isn’t that way. It’s one of the things that people appreciate and is a lesson for us all on how to treat people. 

Of course everyone in this community is running their own business but it’s so good to be part of a network too - especially a community style network where bullshit, judgement and phonyness simply doesn’t survive.

By comparison I remember going to networking events when I was in the corporate world. I always found someone to talk to and I did get some business from some of them but I mostly remember feeling awkward and uncomfortable.

The unspoken “elephant in the room” was that everyone was there with an agenda - to get business out of someone. 

Some were brutally honest about that (which I prefer) and would come straight out with what they did and what they were there for. Others not so much.

The SFM Momentum day I attended in 2013 not long after joining was a breath of fresh air. I knew there would be “networking” involved and I seriously hoped it wouldn’t be the kind of networking I’d experienced before. 

It wasn’t - Phew! 

That’s because SFM events are not “Networking Events” - They are much more sociable and natural - just a gathering of like minded people who love to learn from each other. 

I’m heading off to my next Momentum day tomorrow evening and I can’t wait - I know I’ll be meeting some of you there too which makes it all the more exciting.
