Maybe that surprises you?
To be honest though I really don’t spring out of bed every day thinking “Yay! I’m an internet
marketer!”
I ease out of bed around 10am after a coffee and some toast. And not every day.
But joking aside, on the rare occasions when I actually do try to put a title to what I do - usually when someone asks - it’s definitely not an internet
marketer.
I’m an entrepreneur who just happens to leverage the internet to promote the goods and services I choose to.
That affords me a lifestyle I’m genuinely grateful for and one that I know is going to look after me for the rest of my days. There
will always be an internet (i think it's safe to say) and there will always be things to sell on it to people that are looking for them.
Yes marketing is a big part of it - and I’ve learned from the best - but it’s not the part of the business I’m hooked on by any means.
I’ll be frank - it can be a little tedious. Luckily though it doesn’t take all day and there are lots of ways to do internet marketing so you have the luxury of picking and choosing the methods you use. That’s Stuart Ross’s philosophy and the one that attracted me to starting an online business in the first place - with his help.
Whilst his company SFM provides you with training in every method of online marketing under the sun, his advice is to pick one you like and concentrate on that at first.
Then once you have mastered that - be it blogging, video, Facebook, solo ads, ppc ads etc - move on to the next or better still - grow your
business to the point where you can outsource it.
That way you have irons in lots of fires and over time need to spend less and less time on it personally.
Only the internet provides the opportunity to run a
business like that and to grow it much, much faster than you could with a traditional business.
Ironically that has produced the rather cliched image of the internet marketer: Tanned, fit and lounging on a caribbean beach with a Lamborghini parked nearby (not a bad life mind you!)
My version of that is somewhat different and that’s the whole point. It can be whatever you want it to be.
Cheers
