Did you know that economists have been predicting a "weightless" economy since the 1920's?
Obviously at that time they couldn't predict the digital revolution as we now know it - they'd only just had the motor car for a few years after all - but still…
They foresaw the fact that technology would make the world smaller, lessen the need for manual labour and increase the value of information.
Look at how that's actually happened. Probably sooner and in a bigger way that they could have imagined.
Look at how many things we consume have become "weightless"
Music - most people now download music rather than buying it in a physical format. That's actually changed the entire music industry and all the manufacturing and retail industries around it.
Photography - Same again
Books and films - more and more of us get books and movies digitally. We can download or stream them instantly.
While we've been getting ready to move home (next
week ! - Gulp!) We've thrown out, sold o given away a ton of books, CDs and DVDs. We just realised that the chances of us ever using them again were non existent - so why lug them around with us?
These are just a few examples. Bet you can think of a hundred more.
The
fact that that this can now extend to the way we work and earn money is truly liberating.
It's just a case of skilling up - something everyone will need to do sooner or later anyway. Its now predicted that by 2045 artificial technology will supercede human intelligence.
That gives you 30 years to profit from the new economy before the robots take over !
