Hope you had a great weekend. Thought sumer was here in Scotland early but it didn't last long - back to rain and even hail storms now : (
As we are moving out to the country in less than 2 months we spent some of our weekend de-cluttering so we have less "crap" to take with us!
So we dropped off a couple of suitcases full of paperbacks - I'm a reading addict but I do most of it on the tablet these days.
I've kept a few collections of a few favourite writers - Stephen King (guilty pleasure) Cormac McCarthy, Lee Child (another guilty pleasure), James Lee Burke and a few others.
Also some self development evergreens - Think and grew Rich, Mastery, The Power of Thinking big etc, some
reference stuff and some music bios.
Then we found our old vinyl record collection which hasn't seen a turntable for many years. This got me thinking.
I found a local business that deals in old vinyl for collectors and the two guys that run it came up yesterday
to see if anything was salvageable.
They found a few that they were happy to buy but most sadly were in a shocking state - there were a few that would have been valuable it they were in better nick but c'est la vie …
It got me thinking about progress really.
These old plastic disks definitely held some memories for us both but at the end of the day it was the music they contained that we were passionate about - not the way it was contained.
Since CDS came about my music collection has become huge but the next thing to go will be those hundreds of CDs that again - haven't been used for a long time.
Getting rid of those will be much easier - I'll just scan them into an app on my phone and send them off to Music Magpie for whatever they deem them to be worth now - not much - and possibly not even worth the trouble.
Like most people I've transferred the contents onto an Ipod, My Mac, my
phone and of course a back up drive.
In short technology has made so many things in life portable and to me that's amazing.
It has even made life and work portable.
That's what I'm seriously passionate about these days and it's what SFM is all about too.
I'm glad that a few of
those old albums will find a new home and that there are people out there who have made a business out of that.
Again though - technology has made that possible - they have no premises or shop these guys - You can only find them on the internet and that's where they find their customers and treasures too.
Just goes to show you can create a portable business out of anything these days - you just need to know how.
And The SFM can show you
how
Have a great day
