The reason that people are skeptical about making money on the internet is often that they just don't understand how it all works.
To be honest that's understandable because when you learn how it's done it's surprisingly simple but it is still difficult to explain sometimes.
That's why videos that are put together to explain it- like the ones you received from SFM when you subscribed can be quite long.
Here's my attempt at explaining what makes the internet so incredibly powerful as a place to do business and make money. It basically has to do with advertising.
Think about the traditional methods of advertising - offline advertising in other words.
So you have Newspapers, magazines, billboards, radio and TV.
None of those can generate a sale immediately can they?
They rely on building up a brand over time so that it gets into the consumer's brain and the next time they need whatever has been advertised at them constantly, they MIGHT buy that product.
It costs stupendous amounts of money and work to put adverts together that work in those formats and a lot of that is pretty hit or miss. It's a very uneconomical way to
work.
It's quite difficult to target those adverts at exactly the right audience. You can get some idea of a newspaper, magazine, radio or TV show's audience - what age group they are in, what they are in to but thats' about it and it's pretty general.
Advertising on the Internet on the other hand makes that look like the stone age!
You can click on something and buy it right then - no matter where you are.
Every time someone types something into a search engine, likes something on Facebook, tweets something or takes pretty
much any action on the internet, that action is recorded.
And that is added to the mind blowing wealth of information made available to internet business owners.
So if your internet business sells guitar lessons for example (as one of mine does) You can
identify very tightly the exact audience for your ads - How?
Because those people are typing things like "online guitar lessons" or "learn guitar online" into Google. They are liking, commenting and putting up pictures on things about guitars on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, twitter …..
They are TELLING you what they want to buy.
Take it a stage further - Not everyone wants to learn the same style of guitar playing.
So you test against a variety of players - "learn to play like Eric Clapton", "Learn Jimmy Page's style" - you get the idea.
You can choose different age groups, different locations, gender - there's a ton of info you can use to your advantage.
Take it further again….
You can also retarget ads from one platform to another: You could set a campaign up on Facebook that shows ads only to people who click on ads you placed on Google, or on your website - or any website.
Want to advertise "learn to play like Eric Clapton" only to people who have recently visited his website? - no problem.
Take it further again …..
Someone clicked on an ad but didn't buy anything? Why not ask for their email in exchange for a series of free tips on "learn to play like Eric Clapton" and every now and then promote the online guitar lessons to them again by email?
Why not completely automate that process?
I'm losing count - how many bites at the cherry was that?
Best of all. Internet advertising can be very cheap. It can in fact even be free.
I could go on (i'm writing an ebook on it at
the moment) but hopefully you're getting the picture.
