Hi
I was reminded of this whole “pivot” thing again this morning by an article in one of the blogs I follow.
It talked about how the good old BBC are going to have to pivot by 2027 when the government has finally decided to scrap the licence fee model
So they’ll need to find a new way of funding themselves, probably a subscription set up like Netflix or Amazon Prime
And as with many things the Internet has been a key element
Because it has provided us with many more choices around what and when we want to watch stuff and on what we watch it on.
There are many examples of businesses - now ex-businesses - that failed to pivot in time.
As a photographer Kodak springs to my mind. Ironically my first ever digital camera was a Kodak but that vast corporation decided to stick to making traditional film and cameras. And now they are gone.
But its not just businesses that have had to pivot in the last couple of years. Individuals have had to as well
And the internet for many has been the place to do it.
Whether that means starting an E-commerce business, doing affiliate marketing or just moving a traditional business online
The key is to get the skills, resources and support to do it.
Let’s face it - the world is only going one way and that’s digital so sooner or later, with or without pandemics, not having those skills - not pivoting - could be disastrous.
The best time to do this would have been 10 years ago
But NOW is also a very good time to start - in your spare time at first - pivoting into a more future friendly income model
