Hi
This weekend my brother stayed with us and on Saturday we all went for a long walk at Ardentinny a popular beauty spot near us.
We were lucky with the spring weather. Although there was a chill in the air it was bright and sunny - my favourite kind of weather
There’s an outdoor centre at Ardentinny and a long section of seafront catering for camper vans with parking bays, barbecues and a toilet block.
There’s also a track that leads along the coast with lots of lovely little bays and coves you can have a picnic or take some photos.
There is an ominous side to it as well though …. Signs saying "Drone Free Zone", Police patrol boats cruising around...
You see just across a narrow channel from those idyllic little bays lies Faslane submarine base.
As you can imagine, right now that’s a busy place. The Firth of Clyde is basically the gateway to the world for the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet. They go right past our home a few miles up the Firth form Ardentinny.
Sometimes you don’t see one for weeks but recently they’ve been coming and going daily. There was one coming in on Saturday in fact as we walked along the beach.
Its ironic to be surrounded by largely unspoilt natural beauty but so close to some of the most fearsome machines man has ever created.
I sometimes feel like Slim Pickens in that famous scene from Dr Strangelove where he rides on the bomb!
Why am I telling you this?
Well it just came home to me on Saturday (again) just how little control we actually have over the bigger picture.
That being the case, we owe it to ourselves to try our level best to live the sort of lives we actually want to live.
Not the one we are “supposed to” .
