Hi
I discovered an interesting little factoid yesterday that you may or may nor find useful to know…
I’d shot a video about the relaunch of my Guitar related Youtube channel and was uploading to said channel when I noticed something.
When I first started the channel along with the website I’d built - one of my first ever website done with the SFM tools and tutorials - I created a video series as a give away for subscribers.
I called it Coffee Time Riffs after a friend gave me the idea. They were short videos which taught a well known riff or a piece of technique or idea. The idea being you’d watch them while having a coffee break.
But when I looked at them again for the first time in years (I explained the long break in the video was uploading)
I noticed a few had copyright notices against them. Odd, I thought, since I’d had no notifications from Youtube about this.
On further examination there was no penalty to my channel and the videos were not removed so not a strike against me as such just a warning that any ad revenue earned form them would go to the copyright owner instead of me
Not a big problem since the abandoned channel is at the moment too small to qualify for ad revenue anyway. So while I can’t make any money from ads shown on the videos, someone else can.
I’m sure the Rolling Stones and a few others will be very grateful for the pennies this might make them lol!
But FYI I was simply showing how to play Paint It Black and a few other well known riffs on a guitar. I wasn’t playing a recording of the song, or even a cover of the entire song.
Just something to be aware of if you are planning any kind of video project.
Even a tiny little channel has eyes on it these days thanks to A.I.
Bests
Dave
