Hi
Â
I’m referring to Black Friday/Cyber Monday - although both seem to be weeks now rather than days …
Â
I’m sure there are a few bargains to be had on these blatant marketing pushes. I’ve had a few myself
Â
But i also know that a lot of these “bargains” both real and virtual products are old, unsold stock, dragged out of the stockroom and marked down in a desperate attempt to finally be rid of them
Â
Looking back through the mists of time to when I was 17 and doing my first weekend job as a sales assistant in a Glasgow department store mens clothing department
Â
I remember the Christmas sales being similar. We would set out a sea of trestle tables - like a jumble sale - and cover them in the same crap that didn’t sell last year.
Â
The queues on Boxing day would literally be round the block and when the doors were open it was like a feeding frenzy
Â
I personally don’t promote products that lend themselves to to the BFCM approach
Â
If you suddenly offer high value products at slashed prices on a couple of days in the year how can you justify putting the prices back up?
Â
What are they actually worth?
Â
The other side effect is that as a website owner you find the bad guys are busier than ever on these days
Â
Like pickpockets in a bigger than usual crowd
Â
I spent a lot of yesterday deleting emails from Wordfence telling me that they had just stopped someone logging into one or more of my sites (actually a robot rather than an actual person)
Â
Over 2 thousand attempts and counting so far. I’ll probably have to turn the notifications off.
Â
Wordfence and a few other security measures are built into my website hosting which is provided by SFM as part of my membership
Â
When I joined SFM 7+ years ago it wasn’t through a Black Monday discount deal - they don’t do those
Â
I found that very reassuring at the time and still do.
Â
So if you prefer the straight facts rather than hype and profiteering - especially if you are looking for help, support and resources to build an ethical online income
Â
You should have a look around their site - HERE
Â
You’ll find it refreshing after the hard sales of last week
Bests
Â
