In the spirit of DIN that I’ve been talking about in my last few mails

 

My partner and I decided on a whim to jump on the boat last Saturday and do some Christmas shopping “over the water”.

 

We weren’t sure it would be running as the weather was very stormy or if, it being so close to Christmas, they would be mobbed and we’d have a long wait to get on

 

But they were and we didn’t

 

But when the ferry was a half mile out from the pier rocking around quite a bit in rough seas, it stopped…..

 

Then is started to go backwards in what seemed like the wrong direction.

 

I wasn’t overly worried (ok a bit) but my partner was getting a bit scared

 

When I looked at the other cars, no one seemed bothered at all. I braved the wind and rain and got out for a stagger around the pitching, slippery deck.

 

I realised that we were in fact going in the right direction - just in reverse for some reason - and were nearly at the other side.

 

The boat turned and docked as normal and we drove off and got on with our day.

 

But for a while there we felt completely and utterly out of control and powerless to do anything about it.

 

A feeling we have all experienced to some degree over the last 2 years…… am I right?

 

We don’t know whats going on and have to trust the people who have all the controls

 

Literally with out lives and our future.

 

Don’t know about you but I can only take small doses of that: A short ferry trip or an aeroplane flight

 

But not an indefinite period where the goal posts keep changing on me.

 

And I’ve felt that way since my employers pulled the rug out from under my feet back in 2010 and then again in 2012

 

The Internet was my salvation back then as it has been for so many people over the last few years
