Hi
We had our old friends over this weekend and as usual after catching up with each others news since last time over drinks and dinner we talked until the wee hours
You know the kind of talking old friends do - life the universe and everything, laying the world to rights
Some of the conversation centred around work. They both work long hours in traditional jobs. My partner and I run our own businesses part time.
As you know I do online affiliate marketing and (again) ended up explaining how it works to our friends.
I often find using comparisons is a good way to do this and since we all met through making music, I turned to how we do that in the digital world now
Recording our music when we all met involved either going to a studio and paying for it or doing it yourself.
Either way tons of expensive, bulky equipment was involved and, if you did it yourself (assuming you could afford all the stuff) you also had to learn how.
Nowadays pretty much everything from instruments to recorders and effects units is software. My little Macbook contains everything I need to produce an astounding range of music.
I’ve got hundreds of vintage guitar amps, drum kits, keyboards - even entire orchestras in there and they all sound amazing.
I could never go back to the old way
I see making your living online as the same thing really. The internet has made it possible to replace travelling to and from a set workplace to do a set amount of hours for a set amount of money with a far better option.
So why wouldn’t you do that?
My friends only answer is that they are just too set in their ways
They think it’s too late for them (late forties and early fifties) to learn new skills or take a chance.
Hmmmm - I was 48 when I did it
But I was open minded, had nothing to lose - I’d already lost my well paid fancy job - and I had a lot of help
From THIS GUY and his team
So could you
Bests
Dave
